JY-1000L EX Anti-Static IBC Tank: TUV SUD Assessment and Zone 1/2 Hazardous Area Safety Guide

Jiangsu Jieyuan Container Co., Ltd. (Jieyuan Packaging) was founded in 1994 and is now one of the world’s largest manufacturers of Intermediate Bulk Containers. Operating seven fully automated production bases across China, the company delivers over 6,000 IBC units per day to more than 50 global markets.

Jieyuan is a National High-Tech Enterprise, a co-drafter of China’s national IBC standard GB/T 19161-2016, and holds 70+ patents spanning IBC structure, filling/discharge systems, and automated manufacturing processes. Its quality management system is certified to ISO 9001, its food-grade IBC production operates under FSSC 22000, and its entire product range carries UN certification for hazardous material transport.

Against this backdrop, the company has now reached a new milestone: the JY-1000L EX Intermediate Bulk Container has passed independent TÜV SÜD anti-static conformity assessment under IEC TS 60079-32-1:2013/AMD1:2017. Assessment document number: D 134020 0001.

What Is TÜV SÜD Anti-Static Conformity Assessment?

TÜV SÜD is a globally recognized testing, inspection, and certification body headquartered in Munich, Germany. For industrial packaging, a TÜV SÜD assessment is not a manufacturer’s self-declaration — it is formal, third-party confirmation from an independent accredited laboratory.

The JY-1000L EX was assessed to IEC TS 60079-32-1, the international technical specification for electrostatic hazards in explosive atmospheres. This standard specifically evaluates whether a container meets electrostatic safety requirements in environments where flammable gases, vapours, or mists are present — Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas under the IEC 60079-10-1 classification system. The assessment confirms that the JY-1000L EX meets the electrostatic safety requirements for Gas Groups IIA and IIB, with a Minimum Ignition Energy threshold of ≥ 0.2 mJ — covering the vast majority of industrial solvent, alcohol, and hydrocarbon atmospheres.

Important: The TÜV SÜD assessment confirms the IBC meets electrostatic safety requirements per IEC TS 60079-32-1. It is an anti-static conformity assessment — not a full Ex explosion-proof product certification for the complete IBC unit. The JY-1000L EX is a hazardous chemical storage and transport container equipped with anti-static features suitable for Zone 1/2 hazardous areas.

Safety Guidance: Operating Anti-Static IBCs in Zone 1/2 Hazardous Areas

Passing the TÜV SÜD assessment confirms the container meets electrostatic safety requirements by design. But safe design must be matched by safe operation. Below are the essential handling practices for any anti-static IBC in Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous areas.

1. Ground and bond before every transfer

Connect an earthing cable from the IBC frame to the receiving vessel and verified earth point before any product flows. Static accumulation during liquid transfer is the leading ignition source in flammable liquid handling. The JY-1000L EX features dedicated earthing lugs for this purpose.

2. Confirm zone classification before deployment

Verify the ATEX or IECEx hazardous area zone classification with your site EHS team. The JY-1000L EX is suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas — it is not suitable for Zone 0 (continuously explosive atmosphere).

3. Keep the container sealed when not in use

Tighten the DN150 cap after every fill or dispense cycle. An open bung in a hazardous area allows vapour accumulation — creating an ignition-ready atmosphere.

4. Never modify the container

Do not drill, weld, or replace any component with non-EX-rated parts. Any modification voids the TÜV SÜD conformity assessment D 134020 0001. For replacements, use only genuine Jieyuan accessories.

5. Inspect before each use

Check the inner bottle for cracks or discolouration, the outlet valve for leaks, and the frame and earthing lugs for damage. Remove any damaged unit from service immediately.

6. Control fill rate — avoid free-fall filling

Fill slowly with a dip pipe reaching the container bottom. Turbulent splash filling generates electrostatic charge at a rate that can overwhelm even a properly grounded container.

7. Store away from ignition sources

Position filled IBCs away from open flames, hot work zones, and non-EX-rated electrical equipment. Maintain separation distances per your facility’s risk assessment.

8. Train personnel and label containers

All handlers must complete ATEX/hazardous-area training. Display flammable and EX hazard labels on every IBC — and inspect labels regularly for legibility.
